Ponder this for a second: You can't think like that?
Think about when someone would utter this statement to you or someone else. Why would this statement be mentioned? Who and in what context is this statement often made?
Got it?
It's a bad statement.
How can someone else tell you that you can't think a certain way? After all, it's your mind. So, why not re-state it: Why do you think that way? Of course, add a softer tone to avoid unwanted knee-jerk, you can't think like that, comments, especially in a dire situation (e.g., self harm, harm to others, pushing of a failed outcome, etc.)
Why do you continue to think that way? With the initial change in thought process, the goal is to steer clear of this particular question.
Someone you know needs an adjustment in thinking...in "can't" adjustments. Can you help him or her?
