e-NEWSLETTER PURPOSE REVISITED
The purpose of this newsletter is quite simple: To share health and
fitness with the reader through various ways. At the same time, I offer
my 'two cents'.
Many people can benefit from this e-Newsletter including the following:
young kids to older adults, sedentary individuals, active individuals,
recreational athletes, weekend-warriors, adolescent athletes, retirees,
businessmen and businesswomen, busy parents and more. People are always
changing their "physical activity careers."
Because a lot of individuals can benefit from hearing or knowing
information about health and fitness, then it is important to have a
plethora of goals. So, I want to give you truth, variety, and dynamic
opportunities. I gather information from everyday life.
TRAINING WITHOUT EQUIPMENT
I really wanted to give this portion the title, "Training Without
Equipment". Everyone cannot afford to pay for a gym membership. In all
the gyms I have worked, I would say that a person pays on average
$800/year just to be a member (it depends on where you go.) If you want
personal training, it's another several hundred or couple thousand a
year, depending on your goals. Next, you need a few massages, gym
clothes, transportation, Evian bottled water, muscle milk, and a yoga
mat. Did I miss anything?
Now, your total is somewhere beyond your budget, the economy decides to
go on vacation, and you're stuck with a heightened Presidential race.
Confused? Yes. How on earth do you take care of your physically self
while everything continues to resonate so loudly?
You do not have to drop your gym membership (not emphasizing this at
all). You can, and this is for everyone, think about the following
things, for example:
1. If you have a goal to lose weight, how much do you walk after
dinner (safely)? If you have the same goal as I just mentioned, but you
are busy at work, how often do you bring a bag lunch, an economy saver
but not Saviour, or eat out with your co-workers who try to eat healthy?
2. That old treadmill, rower, or bike maybe old-school; but it has
feelings too.
3. If your friends are involved in some type of human performance
activity, how often can or do you join them?...Did you know in the first
place?
These are just some ideas to think about when you have limited training
equipment. Just because times are tight and things might have slowed
down does not mean you have to follow suit.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL/NEW YEAR'S NOW!
The Fall season sports so many changes. Traffic picks up after a light
summer. Some heavily college-based cities increase their population by
six times the original size. Then, there is you. You have to think that
with the arrival of Fall begins the domino effect, which includes, Labor
Day, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day,
Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, and New Year's (phew!) all within a
two-week span...right? At least, it has seemed that way since November
1st.
Every year individuals make New Year's Resolution that pertain to
physically feeling better, but they most likely will not fulfill their
resolution for the entire new year. Once the fall school semester
begins, the holiday season does not follow far behind. One great goal to
include: begin your change now! Use the holiday season as a goal-setting
season. For example, by Thanksgiving or Christmas I will be able to
climb three flights of stairs without getting tired. Or, for some
others, I will be able to run 2 miles without becoming exhausted.
SHARING
I believe in a network of sharing. Health and fitness should be shared.
Please feel free to share any information with someone you know. Every
email is different, so there will be different topics as I continue to
structure and change these e-Newsletters.
