4 NE DC Uphill Gems

(Stay tuned as this post will be updated with more photos)

Northeast and Southeast, Washington, DC have some of the best hills to walk, run, or rollerblade...might as well add in bicycling...in the area!

I still have issues saying, "DMV."

Walk'em. Run'em. Bike'em!

1) Monroe Street NE. Another long incline. At the top of this one is a flat, so acceleration gets worked. Pick any side street that you want to enter Monroe Street, and you will not be disappointed because Monroe is that steep. The dips around this Brookland and Woodridge neighborhood such as, adjacent Newton St, 16th St, and a majority of the side streets, will put a plus in your outdoor conditioning workout.

You can keep in tip-top shape all summer on these routes. Oh, I forgot...do you want to work on assisted resistance running or walking? Well, traverse down Monroe Street, pick up a faster pace, and, without crossing 18th Street, head west (left) on 18th, booking it toward Newton.

Walk your neighborhood.

2) 44th St NE
. This piece of road is long. Typically, long inclines beget solid side streets with decent dips. Gaul Pl is a good example.

3) 20th & Evarts NE - Chuck Brown Park. Quadriceps and hamstring burner! Call it, The Dip. With a decline followed by an immediate incline, your gait receives a fantastic challenge. So, if you walk this route with power, run with speed or at a speed that is a half stride faster than your normal speed, or bike the route...oh, you are gonna feel its essence. It's challenge!

Run your neighborhood.

31st Pl NE (Fort Lincoln)
. With a nice curved acceleration off or onto side street, Banneker Dr., 31st Pl is due to burn your glutes, hamstrings, and calves. Once you reach the top, you have a choice of another slight incline to the left or cross the street and run stairs...with a view of the city. Your choice.
When you have this type of hill, long and steep,  you can start your workout from a side street or any point on the hill (31st Pl). This street...it's a total lower body challenge.

Need assistance with an outdoor conditioning run that helps you improve your acceleration, improve your stamina, and is fun? I got your back!
